I almost, almost didn't go see Cursive last night at Tremont, but I'm glad I did. Tremont was packed to the gills, Tim Kasher was noticeably moved by size of the crowd and the opening bands were great.
The Cops could easily be described as the second coming of The Clash. There's definitely a little Ted Leo vibe to them as well, but I kept hoping they might just cover "Clampdown" if I thought hard enough about it.
Former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman, Jeremy Enigk played second and lulled everyone to sleep. His solo stuff is great, but following The Cops and preceding Cursive is not the time for emotional slow-jams.
By the time Cursive came on, the big room was as packed as I've ever seen it. Tim Kasher was in top form. The set ended with about 20-30 people from the crowd on stage singing "The Lament of Pretty Baby" and "Red-Handed Sleight of Hand." In other words, an amazing show.
