Intype Alpha is available for download. Super lightweight and looks amazingly clean and simple for Windows software. This app needs some attention, that's for sure.

Racer 5

I thoroughly enjoyed a pint of Racer 5 IPA at Against The Grain in New York earlier in December. It was the best IPA I've ever tasted. I was just thinking about how I could get my hands on some more and was reminded I never mentioned it here.

Christmas Round 1, Asheville

Amy and I are off to the mountains in about 8 hours for the first round of Christmas with the Maney clan. It's always fun to hang out with the family. I will have to make an effort to take pictures this year. For some odd reason, no one ever does.

Parallels "coherency mode" has got to be the weirdest thing I've seen in a while. As wrong as it looks, that's just sickeningly convenient. We need to upgrade to Mac Pros and Parallels at work... like Monday.

The Mighty Cursive

I almost, almost didn't go see Cursive last night at Tremont, but I'm glad I did. Tremont was packed to the gills, Tim Kasher was noticeably moved by size of the crowd and the opening bands were great.

The Cops could easily be described as the second coming of The Clash. There's definitely a little Ted Leo vibe to them as well, but I kept hoping they might just cover "Clampdown" if I thought hard enough about it.

Former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman, Jeremy Enigk played second and lulled everyone to sleep. His solo stuff is great, but following The Cops and preceding Cursive is not the time for emotional slow-jams.

By the time Cursive came on, the big room was as packed as I've ever seen it. Tim Kasher was in top form. The set ended with about 20-30 people from the crowd on stage singing "The Lament of Pretty Baby" and "Red-Handed Sleight of Hand." In other words, an amazing show.

Death Brothers Celebration

Just arrived home from the ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, The Blood Brothers, Celebration show. I have to say none of the acts were completely satisfying tonight, but Celebration came the closest.

For some odd reason, they started the whole show 30 minutes before scheduled. That meant I missed Brothers and Sisters, who sounded good from the parking lot. The new Blood Brothers songs were a blur, since I have yet to actually listen to Young Machetes. Trail of Dead's set ended with a whimper instead of the usual insanity. All in all, a pleasurable experience, but not a memorable one.

As someone with a great deal of interest in the future of PHP, I'm glad to see that Microsoft is interested in working with Zend to ensure PHP performance improves on Window servers. I'm not an advocate of either platform. As long as PHP and MySQL work the way they were designed to work, I'm happy.

The 37signals book Getting Real is now freely available to read online. You can still grab the PDF version and they've published a paperback version. I may opt for the paperback. Barack Obama

I think if there's a chance the US will have a black president any time soon that chance rests squarely only the shoulders of Barack Obama. While I'd definitely like to see him run and he's already got my vote, I hope he waits until 2012. I'd like to see McCain and then Obama, which would move the country back to a more moderate balance. I think we've seen that moving too far left or right has undesirable consequences.

Blame Game

Apparently, the Bush adminstration and Republican party decided this election year that the easiest way to get out of being accountable for their mistakes is to blame the Democratic party and Bill Clinton. I don't blindly support decisions made by either party, but passing the buck is just lame. Have some backbone, take responsibility.

Weekend Recap

It was a fun weekend. Mitch getting married on Saturday afternoon was definitely the highlight. Believe it or not, I actually posted some photos on Flickr from the wedding.

As mentioned, Amy and I also attended a couple of shows. Jose Gonzalez was definitely the best of the two, since his sound really comes alive in the live setting. We only saw one and half songs of CSS and Ladytron was pretty much everything I expected. I'm sure Amy will agree the people watching at that show was more fun.

Lastly, I watched Team USA get their collective butts stomped by the European team to lose the Ryder Cup yet again.
