Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes were hilarious. Colin Farrell was surprisingly great. The comedy was a lot blacker than I expected and the story originated from a place that your typical movie venture. Think the odd-couple for so-called "lollipop men."

Anton Yelchin, the lead actor, was great and very charismatic. Robert Downey Jr. is as likable as in recent memory. Think Ferris Bueller for today's kids, with drugs.

Today, Amy and I are heading out to Holden Beach for the annual Maney family beach trip. It's a week filled with much of nothing, but it's a good mid-year recharge. After 28 years, I still look forward to it every year.
Update: Home again, home again. As expected, the beach was exactly the diversion I needed. Amy uploaded a bunch of photos to Flickr.

For the most part, Beowulf was entertaining and the animation was impressive. After talking it over with Will, we agreed the inclusion of faux high heels on Grendel's Mother and the Austin Powers hide-the-penis gag was unnecessary. Grendel takes best character hands down.
